We Love Our Charities

Being a veterinary practice means helping animals is in our nature; however, our dedication to all creatures great and small doesn’t end once our practice doors close for the evening.

Why We Do It

Being a veterinary practice means helping animals is in our nature; however, our dedication to all creatures great and small doesn’t end once our practice doors close for the evening.

At The Neighbourhood Vet, many of our staff have volunteered for animal charities around the globe.

Both Amber and Suzanne in particular have been involved in many wildlife and domestic animal projects over the years and they are committed to using their veterinary skills for the benefit of both the animals they treat, and the humans caring for them.

At our practice we actively support two charities – The Mdzananda Animal Clinic in South Africa and the international organisation The Global Alliance for Rabies Control (GARC). We’d love you to help us!

Mdzananda Animal Clinic

Mdzananda provides the only permanent, on-site veterinary service to the cats and dogs owned by 1 million people living in Khayelitsha, near Cape Town in South Africa. The clinic and its staff make a real difference to the lives of many animals in the township, and the owners appreciate and highly value the work of the clinic.

GARC

GARC is striving to free people and animals throughout the world from the threat of rabies through the vaccination of dogs, rabies monitoring and education. As a result GARC created the annual World Rabies Day on September 28th.

GARC has had many successes since its humble beginnings. One example is the Serengeti vaccination project in which 35,000 – 50,000 dog vaccinations are administered every year, protecting dogs and humans from rabies.

If you would like to find out more about GARC please visit www.rabiescontrol.net

When you visit us you will notice a number of pictures displayed around our practice. These were taken in Africa whilst working for our two chosen charities. They are some of our favourite images which show you the local people and the love they have for their animals.

If you would like to make a donation to either of our chosen charities, please visit the links shown above. Alternatively, please feel free to pop in and make your contribution to one of our charity boxes.
